Director, Media Automation

The Director, Media Automation is responsible for overseeing and leading the strategy and implementation of multi-channel media automation and journey orchestration campaigns under management by CMI Media Group, on behalf of our life science clients.  In addition, the Director serves as the lead and mentor of a high performing team of Managers and Analysts, and drives the short- and long-term service offering product roadmap across internal and external clients.  The Director also serves as a media automation thought leader who works across internal teams to iterate and scale innovative tactics, techniques, and applications.


  • Serve as a strategic client-facing lead and subject matter expert of various marketing automation projects, providing strategic input into best practices, data strategy, implementation, and cutting-edge approaches
  • Contribute to the market strategy of the customer experience management product offering; helping to develop and maintain the roadmap for future iterations and innovative offerings
  • Identify staffing and support needs, and work with senior leadership to appropriately staff emerging assignments
  • Assess and lead initiatives to scale our service across internal departments, including but not limited to, Media, Programmatic, Social, Buying Services, Development, and Ad Operations.
  • Quote, negotiate and contract campaign SOWs with media automation clients as needed and also support Managers and Associate Directors in financial management of their accounts
  • Manage and grow relationships with strategic suppliers and/or service providers
  • Establish relationships with digital suppliers and develop roadmaps for implementation in CMI’s media automation platform
  • Explore, vet, and onboard new supplier partners to participate in emerging initiatives
  • Present the team's vision and capabilities to prospective clients and internal media teams and work with both teams as a strategic consultant to bring automation to media campaigns
  • Develop and Advise clients and planning teams on best practices for successful management of programs, including the creation of case studies, white papers, and POVs to be distributed to internal stakeholders and clients
  • Present case studies and white papers of emerging trends and program performance to Senior Executive Leadership, plus the industry at large
  • Work with Senior Leadership to forecast resourcing, establish budgets, and identify efficiencies in the organizational setup and/or program implementation
  • Oversee Managers and Associate Directors and individual contributors in testing procedures between CMI, creative teams, and clients
  • Gather feedback from direct, manager-level reports, and devise solutions to system, user, and list related issues as they arise
  • Create development plans for direct reports and manage completion and adherence to plans
  • Represent the media automation department at industry and client innovation oriented events
  • Lead the preparation of and conduct formal training sessions on Media Automation Products and Services for media planning teams, direct reports, and client teams
  • Build career development plans for staff and ensure that plans are executed
  • Manage allocation of resources across client and brand engagements ensuring coverage and excellence


  • Bachelor’s degree with 7-10 years of experience working in marketing automation, advanced digital marketing or similar combination of knowledge and experience
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience either with direct reports, third-party agents and/or projects
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Technical background and proficiency
  • Experience with marketing automation systems, CRM, and/or data-driven personalized marketing systems or processes preferred
  • Experience working with or servicing pharmaceutical and other life sciences companies preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint
