Senior Analyst, Decision Sciences
GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Business/Data Analyst is responsible for accessing, validating, analyzing, reporting and interpreting data in a meaningful way for their clients (both internal and external). They develop actionable quantitative models and analyses to help clients address their marketing challenges such as estimating promotional channel effectiveness, ROI, and marketing mix optimization.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Data management
Develop efficient and well-documented processes to build and refresh datasets in a manner that ensures analytics-ready data for downstream analysis
- Responsible for gathering data requirements and building datasets to meet team needs
- Ensure that data verification and validation processes are an integral part of all data feeds/implementations
- Maintain client confidence and protects operations by keeping data and information confidential
- Work with Data Governance team to ensure compliance with governance policies and processes
Data analysis
Use analytics capabilities to deliver effective, innovative solutions to complex business challenges:
- Communicate with and engage internal clients to develop an understanding of their analytical and reporting needs
- Analyze and identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within data
- Create and maintain programs used for report generation and analytical modeling
- Provide guidance on findings and implications of statistical output and provide explanations to a client (internal or external)
- Contribute to the team's collection of analysis methods and train others on the use of those methods and how to interpret their output
- Communicate capabilities to internal and external teams
REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in statistics or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a Business Analyst with job duties similar to above, ideally for projects associated with custom analytics and/or custom reporting/metrics development
- Pharma industry experience and thorough knowledge of IMS data preferred
Software Skills
- Experience with statistical tools (SAS, Python, R, SPSS)
Ability to write code in a collaborative fashion is essential
Experience writing macro code and functions is desirable
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Proficiency with pivot tables, functions, graphs
Experience with VBA is desirable
- Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Microsoft Power BI)
Statistical Skills:
Must possess a strong foundation in the following areas:
- Data validation, cleaning, and transformation
- Basic statistical analyses
Descriptive statistics and measures of central tendency
Cross-tabulation (chi-square and proportional reduction in error measures)
Correlation and regression
ANOVA/ANCOVA modeling
- Survey construction and analysis
Must be familiar with the following areas:
- Advanced statistical techniques:
Data classification (cluster analysis/discriminant analysis)
Decision trees (CART/CHAID)
Marketing mix modeling (GLM)
Forecasting (exponential smoothing, ARIMA)
Machine Learning and Text analytics
